Done Deal: League two side agree deal for Peterborough United striker

Swindon Town have reached an agreement to take Peterborough United striker Kabongo Tshimanga on loan until the end of the season, according to the Adver.

After pursuing Tshimanga for several weeks, Swindon have successfully negotiated with Peterborough to bring the striker to the Nigel Eady County Ground, with the move expected to be finalized early next week, according to a source familiar with the deal.

Negotiations had been ongoing for weeks, with Peterborough’s chairman, Darragh MacAnthony, publicly stating that Swindon initially couldn’t meet the required wage contribution. However, Swindon have now managed to bridge the gap and agree on terms.

Tshimanga was listed for transfer by Peterborough at the start of the summer after failing to secure a regular spot in the first team following his permanent move to London Road last year.

The striker attracted interest from two Non-League clubs and Partick Thistle in the Scottish Championship, but according to MacAnthony, Tshimanga preferred a move to League Two, and Swindon met their demands.

This signing is just the first of several Swindon hopes to complete before next Friday’s transfer deadline. The club is also in the market for a goalkeeper and another midfielder, having already made 13 signings this summer.

Tshimanga has been included in the National League Team of the Season three times for his impressive goal-scoring performances with Boreham Wood and Chesterfield, where he netted 74 goals in 141 appearances in the fifth tier.

These performances earned him a move to Peterborough 18 months ago, initially on loan, though he struggled to find his form at London Road and had limited opportunities while on loan at Fleetwood Town last season.

However, the Congolese striker rediscovered his scoring touch upon returning to Boreham Wood in the second half of the 2023/24 season, scoring seven goals in 16 appearances.

He now joins Swindon to bolster their attacking options, adding to the existing choices of Harry Smith, Aaron Drinan, and Paul Glatzel, each offering different strengths for manager Mark Kennedy.
