Manager confirms he’s keen to sign ‘brilliant’ Man City player before deadline day

Manchester City have seen several players depart during this summer’s transfer window.

In addition to losing first-team members like Julian Alvarez and Sergio Gomez, City have also sent some of their younger talents, such as Callum Doyle and Luke Mbete, out on loan deals.

Another academy player, Mahamadou Susoho, joined Peterborough United on a season-long loan earlier this month.

However, after the 19-year-old suffered a serious muscle injury that will sideline him for four months, he has returned to the Etihad Stadium.

Despite Posh manager Darren Ferguson expressing interest in re-signing Susoho in January once he’s fully recovered, he has also commented on the possibility of securing another young City player, Jadel Katongo, before the end of the month.

Speaking on BBC Radio Cambridgeshire, Ferguson said: “It is something that I would love to be able to do again because he can play in so many positions, but I think it’s going to be very doubtful for us to get him back, certainly with the situation at Man City. It’s a long shot.”

Katongo shone in previous loan spell at Peterborough

The 19-year-old spent last season on loan at The Weston Homes Stadium, where he made 43 appearances across all competitions, primarily as a right-back.

In the 30 League One games he played last season, Katongo demonstrated his value both defensively and offensively. He delivered 27 crosses, made 25 interceptions, and won 20 tackles.

In March, Ferguson expressed his belief that Katongo is ready to take on a regular senior role for Manchester City.

Given this, it’s clear why Ferguson is keen to see the teenager, whom he described as “brilliant” back in March (via The Mirror), return to Peterborough.
