JUST NOW: Man dead following crash in Watertown

WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) – A man lost his life in a single-vehicle crash in Watertown on Thursday night.

According to Watertown police, the accident occurred in the 800 block of South Massey Street around 10:30 p.m.

The vehicle, traveling westbound, veered off the road, hit several mailboxes, broke through two utility poles, went over an embankment, and ended up resting on the driver’s side.

The 32-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released as authorities are still notifying next of kin.

Assisting at the scene were the town and city of Watertown fire departments, Guilfoyle Ambulance, state police, and National Grid.

The incident started just before 10 a.m. at a school in Cambridge, where a man with severe mental health issues reportedly asked a staff member about harming children, according to Cambridge police.

The man, who was not identified, then fled into Boston and ultimately ended up in a car crash in Watertown on Monday, police said.

It wasn’t immediately clear if anyone was injured in the crash, which occurred on Greenough Boulevard. Footage from the scene showed a grey car flipped on its side and a red car with visible damage to its side.
