Southend United boss Kevin Maher now gives update on his search for new signings

Southend United manager Kevin Maher is eager to strengthen his squad, particularly in attacking positions, but has acknowledged that new signings are unlikely before Tuesday night’s match against Boston United.

After back-to-back draws, Maher is focused on adding an attacking midfielder and a striker to make the Blues more potent in the final third. However, the 47-year-old admitted that no deals are close to being finalized at this time.

“Not at the minute,” Maher responded when asked if any new signings would be in place for the upcoming game at Roots Hall. He added, “Behind the scenes, it’s not as easy as we would like it to be sometimes.

We’re all working hard and we’re always looking. We know the area we want to add to and we’re trying. Fingers crossed something can happen.”

Since the end of last season, the Shrimpers have signed four players: full-back George Wind, center-back Joe Gubbins, striker Josh Walker, and goalkeeper James Hillson, who joined on a non-contract basis to provide cover for Collin Andeng Ndi.

Despite these additions, Maher remains focused on further strengthening the squad, particularly in attacking areas. The Blues have reportedly held talks with an attacking midfielder from a League One club and a striker with National League experience.
