Saints set to face local rivals in pool stages of Premiership Rugby Cup

Saints are set to face local rivals Leicester Tigers and Championship clubs Coventry and Nottingham in the pool stages of this season’s Premiership Rugby Cup. Phil Dowson’s squad will kick off their Pool 2 campaign with a televised home match against Tigers on Friday, November 1, at 7:45 PM.

The following weekend, Saints will host Nottingham on Saturday, November 9, with a 5:15 PM kick-off. Their first away match in the competition will be against Coventry on Saturday, November 23, at 3:00 PM. The return fixture against Tigers is scheduled for Saturday, February 1, at 3:00 PM. Saints will then host Coventry on Saturday, February 8, at 2:45 PM, before concluding the pool stages with an away game at Nottingham on Friday, February 14, at 7:45 PM.

The quarter-finals are set for the weekend of March 1, followed by the semi-finals on the weekend of March 8. The final will take place on the weekend of March 15. There are five pools in total, with the pool winners and the three best runners-up advancing to the quarter-finals.

Phil Winstanley, rugby director at Premiership Rugby, expressed his enthusiasm for the competition, saying, “It’s great to once again open up the Premiership Rugby Cup to Championship clubs. By regionalizing the pool games, the narrative and stakes are even more intense, with old rivals creating plenty of new stories for fans.

Last season’s final at Kingsholm between Gloucester Rugby and Leicester Tigers was a high-quality affair, demonstrating the value our clubs, players, and supporters place on winning silverware. Many future stars of England Rugby come to prominence in the Premiership Rugby Cup, with players like Immanuel Feyi-Waboso, Guy Pepper, and Henry Pollock making their mark.”

Conor O’Shea, executive director of Performance Rugby at the RFU, added, “We are very excited to see the Gallagher Premiership Rugby and Championship teams battle it out again in the 2024/25 Premiership Rugby Cup. The success of last year’s competition was clear, and we believe it will continue to grow and thrive with each season.”
