JUST IN: NC State football announces 2024 captains

NC State has named four team captains for the 2024 season, including two newcomers who joined the team this offseason: quarterback Grayson McCall, center Zeke Correll, defensive lineman Davin Vann, and linebacker Sean Brown.

It’s always impressive when transfer players quickly earn the respect of their teammates, and by all accounts, both McCall and Correll have made significant contributions to the program in various ways. If McCall lives up to the hype from camp, the Pack could be in for a big season.

Davin Vann and Sean Brown will continue to be key leaders on defense, a familiar role for Vann, who is entering his second year wearing the prestigious No. 1 jersey.

Only one more week until game week.

NC State football fans have a new legacy recruit to keep an eye on in the coming years. Gunner Rivers, son of legendary Wolfpack and NFL quarterback Philip Rivers, has officially emerged as an elite prospect in the 2027 recruiting class.

On3 released its top-100 rankings for the rising sophomore class, and Rivers debuted as the No. 60 recruit in the nation. The four-star sophomore is ranked as the No. 8 quarterback nationally and the No. 3 prospect in Alabama.

According to a source, Rivers already holds an offer from NC State after an impressive freshman season. The 6-foot-2, 175-pound quarterback, who doesn’t have any social media, has kept any additional collegiate offers or interest under wraps.

In his first game as a freshman, Rivers showcased his arm talent with a 330-yard, 3-touchdown performance. He finished that season with 3,077 passing yards, a 63.3% completion rate, 29 touchdowns, and just 4 interceptions, leading St. Michael Catholic High to a 6-5 record.

Rivers capped off his freshman year with a 516-yard passing game, his highest of the season. He also demonstrated versatility by rushing for 59 yards and 2 touchdowns on 16 carries, and even caught a touchdown pass.
