Peterborough United aim to re-sign player in Janaury

Peterborough United manager Darren Ferguson has stated that they “aim” to re-sign Manchester City’s Mahamadou Susoho in January.

The midfielder recently joined Peterborough United on loan from Manchester City but has since suffered a thigh injury and returned to the Etihad Stadium for treatment.

Mahamadou Susoho, 19, has been with Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City since 2017 and was part of their squad for the pre-season tour in America earlier this summer.

Peterborough United manager Darren Ferguson provided an update on Susoho’s situation, as reported by the Lancashire Telegraph: “He’ll be out for at least four months, as we feared; it’s probably about as bad an injury as you can get to that area. We’ve sent him back to Man City, and we will keep in touch with him. The aim is to bring him back in January on loan for the rest of the season. I feel for him; it’s his first loan, and he’s a young kid. It’s a real blow to us.”

Ferguson also mentioned that a recruitment meeting is scheduled for Monday: “We still want to bring in another center-half if possible, but getting Hector back is good news.” He continued, “We’ll discuss our needs, but I think we’ll stick to the plan, and there won’t be many new signings. The priority is to move one or two players out to free up some funds. We expected a few departures by now, but that could still happen before the window closes.”

Peterborough United transfer plan

Susoho’s injury is a significant setback for Peterborough United, as he was an exciting addition to the squad. However, it would be a major boost for the team to have him back this winter when he is fit again for the second half of the season.

Susoho was brought in to strengthen Peterborough’s midfield as they aim for promotion to the Championship after narrowly missing out last season, losing to Oxford United in the play-off semi-finals.

Having represented both England and Spain at youth international levels, Susoho began his career at Club Atlètic del Vallès before joining Manchester City.

La Liga side Espanyol signed Susoho in 2013, where he spent four years before being recruited by Manchester City. He was awarded his first professional contract in 2022 and made his debut for City’s first team in a Champions League match against Red Star Belgrade last year.

Susoho has also made 18 competitive appearances for Manchester City’s Under-21 side, contributing two goals during that time.
