Major update on missing Duo for Chesterfield against Crewe Alexandra

Chesterfield had to make some last-minute decisions on two players before their impressive win against Crewe. The Spireites’ 5-0 thrashing of the Railwaymen on Saturday marked their biggest away victory in nearly 16 years, since they defeated Exeter City 6-1 in October 2008.

It was a day to remember for many reasons, most notably because it was the club’s first win since their return to the Football League. This victory was particularly sweet as it came at a ground where they had suffered a 5-1 defeat in 2017, the season they were relegated to non-league.

Despite missing six players (Ryheem Sheckleford, Ash Palmer, Paddy Madden, Liam Mandeville, Ryan Colclough, and Devan Tanton) due to injuries, Chesterfield managed to easily sweep aside last season’s play-off finalists.

After the match, it was revealed that Tanton and Colclough were both originally set to start at Gresty Road. However, Tanton was sidelined due to a tight thigh sustained against Derby County, and Colclough was pulled out after his calf flared up during Friday’s training.

“We lost Colclough yesterday and Devan yesterday, they were both starting today, so that was a big blow,” Paul Cook confirmed after the game.

Chesterfield will next host Manchester City under-21s on Tuesday night in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy before returning to league action on Saturday at the SMH Group Stadium, with Salford City as their visitors.
