One killed in four-car crash on Aurora’s far East Side

A four-car crash on Aurora’s far East Side last Wednesday resulted in one death and two injuries, officials announced on Friday.

According to the Aurora Police Department, the incident occurred around 8:40 p.m. when a gray Dodge Challenger lost control while turning at the intersection of East Aurora Street and North Eola Road.

The car struck three other vehicles before rolling over. Gerardo Cuatzo, 44, of Portland Lane in Aurora, sustained life-threatening injuries in the crash and later died after being transported to a nearby hospital.

Ailisa Gutierrez, 19, of Aurora, has been charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident in connection with the crash, according to the release.

According to police, a preliminary investigation suggests that the Dodge was traveling westbound on East New York Street as it approached North Eola Road. The vehicle then changed lanes and attempted to turn onto North Eola Road but lost control and collided with three vehicles in the southbound lanes of North Eola Road.
