Just Now: Man, 18, dies after roundabout crash

An 18-year-old man has died from injuries sustained in a car crash earlier this week on a roundabout in Sheffield.

According to police, the young man was a passenger in a black VW Golf that collided with barriers on St Mary’s Gate at around 01:55 BST on Monday. Another passenger, a 15-year-old boy, was also injured in the crash and remains in hospital.

The 21-year-old driver, who sustained minor injuries, was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and has since been bailed.

South Yorkshire Police have informed the 18-year-old’s family of his death and are providing support through specialist officers.

The A61 St Mary’s Road, near the roundabout with Bramall Lane, was closed for much of Monday morning as crash investigators examined the scene.

Police are appealing to anyone with information or who witnessed the crash to come forward.
