Corey Taylor has revealed  the Only Drummer “Brave Enough” to Meet with Slipknot

There’s been ample time to reflect on Slipknot’s decision to hire ex-Sepultura drummer Eloy Casagrande as Jay Weinberg’s replacement, and the consensus seems to be that he’s a perfect fit. Casagrande’s performances behind the kit have been nothing short of impressive, as evidenced by the viral videos circulating online.

In an interview with *Revolver*, vocalist Corey Taylor shared more details about the selection process, revealing that while most candidates chose to send in videos rather than meet in person, Casagrande was the only one who stepped up and met with the band.

“I think we just kind of went, ‘You know what? Let’s just tell people.’ It was really as simple as that,” Taylor said. “Eloy was the only one brave enough to get in the room with us. There were a handful of other people we considered, but none of them wanted to jam with us. They just wanted to do their own thing and send it in—a very TikTok thing, you know? And we were like, ‘That’s not how this works, dude.’

“Eloy rearranged his schedule to come see us. He was so eager to jam and see what would happen that we were immediately impressed by that alone. He didn’t get the job right away—getting to know him was just as important as jamming with him—but by the time we made our decision, we were like, ‘Let’s tell the world now. He’s earned it.’ Our audience is so used to us keeping things under wraps, but it felt refreshing to just come out and say, ‘Yeah, he’s our guy.'”

Can you imagine getting a call from a major band like Slipknot and thinking, “Nah, I’ll just send in a video”? What?! You get selected as a potential candidate and let an opportunity of a lifetime slip away like that? Yikes.

Well, it seems to have worked out for the best. Weinberg is now jamming with Suicidal Tendencies, ex-Suicidal Tendencies drummer Greyson Nekrutman is playing with Sepultura, and Casagrande is with Slipknot. It’s a win-win-win situation for everyone involved.

If you want to catch Casagrande tearing it up live with Slipknot, there are plenty of opportunities coming up this year. The band is celebrating the 25th anniversary of their debut album, so you’ll have a great chance to see them live at some point. Check out the full list of dates below to find a show near you.
