JUST IN: Swindon Town keen on move for prolific striker

Swindon Town manager Mark Kennedy has expressed a strong interest in signing Peterborough United striker Kabongo Tshimanga this summer. Swindon Town is keen to bring the attacker to Wiltshire before the transfer window closes.

The Robins drew 1-1 with Chesterfield in their opening game of the season last Friday, with defender Will Wright scoring their goal. Tshimanga, 27, has been with Peterborough United since 2023 but has been loaned out to Fleetwood Town and Boreham Wood since joining the club.

Kennedy has confirmed Swindon’s interest in Tshimanga and remarked, as reported by the Swindon Advertiser: “We would love to have him. We would like to bring him in if we could, and I don’t see any reason to hide that. I would imagine we are among many clubs interested in him, given his impressive goalscoring record and the high fees that have been paid for him in the past.

“I’m not sure what the situation is at Peterborough, and that’s not my concern. But if someone like him is available, we are 100 percent in for him. He’s a player we really like.”

Signing Tshimanga would be a savvy move for Swindon Town, significantly strengthening their attacking options.

Last season, Tshimanga spent the first half on loan at Fleetwood Town, where he netted twice in 20 appearances. He then joined Boreham Wood in January, where he made a notable impact, scoring seven goals in 16 games for the National League side.

The former England C international Tshimanga began his career at MK Dons before moving into non-league football. He had stints at Boston United and Oxford City before joining Boreham Wood in 2019.

Tshimanga was highly prolific for Boreham Wood, scoring 41 goals in 88 appearances, which earned him a move to Chesterfield. He continued his impressive form with the Spirerites, netting 33 times in 53 games, leading to a transfer to Peterborough United.

However, his time with Peterborough hasn’t gone as planned so far, and his future remains uncertain with interest from Swindon Town.
