Heart breaking news: New York dad learns his 2 teenage daughters died after tracking phones to crash site

The father of two teenage girls who were killed in a car accident in upstate New York last week discovered the tragic news by tracking their phone’s location.

Hailey Trumble, 19, and Shelby Trumble, 17, died from injuries sustained in the crash, which occurred on Thursday evening in Ira, a small town near Syracuse, according to a post by the sheriff’s office on Facebook. The incident happened when Hailey, driving a Chevy Cobalt, crested a hill, crossed into the opposite lane, and collided with a westbound Jeep Cherokee. The driver of the Jeep was hospitalized with serious injuries and is in stable condition, the sheriff’s office reported.

The girls’ father, Brian Trumble, shared with Syracuse.com that they were on their way home from Seabreeze Amusement Park in Irondequoit when the fatal crash occurred, just three miles from their home in Granby.

“It’s a tremendous loss,” Brian told the outlet. “It’s never going to be the same again.”

Concerned when his daughters didn’t respond to his calls and texts that evening, Brian used Apple’s “Find My” app to track their phones. He drove to the location and arrived at the scene of the crash, only to be met with the worst news of his life.

“An officer asked what I was doing, what I was looking for,” Brian recalled to Syracuse.com. “I told him I was looking for my daughters.”

Brian and his wife, Tina Trumble, described their daughters as simple country girls with a love for animals, crafts, camping, and fishing. The sisters often enjoyed painting each other’s nails and watching shows like “Gilmore Girls” and “Heartland.”

Shelby had just graduated high school in June, and Hailey had graduated the previous year. Shelby worked at Reeves Farm Stand in Baldwinsville, while Hailey was set to start a new daycare job on Monday, Brian said.

“They were everything that you wish you could be,” Tina told the outlet. “So full of life. They were loved and so beautiful.”

A GoFundMe page has raised nearly $40,000 as of Tuesday to support the Trumble family’s funeral expenses during this “time of unimaginable loss and need.” The funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, August 10.
