JUST IN: St Mirren to face UEFA charge for Olusanya deal

St Mirren will have goalscorer Toyosi Olusanya available for their crucial European clash against SK Brann next week.

Olusanya scored a dramatic late equaliser against the Norwegian side at the SMiSA Stadium in the first leg of the Conference League third qualifying round on Thursday, marking his second goal in three European qualifiers.

Despite receiving a controversial yellow card, which led manager Stephen Robinson to believe Olusanya would be suspended for next Thursday’s match in Norway, UEFA has confirmed that Olusanya will be eligible to play. A suspension applies after three yellow cards, not two as Robinson had thought.

However, the Paisley side may face issues due to additional bookings in Thursday’s match. Alongside Olusanya, yellow cards were also issued to Ellery Balcombe, Marcus Fraser, Richard Taylor, Alexander Gogic, and Mikael Mandron, as well as to manager Stephen Robinson.

UEFA regulations state that teams receiving five or more yellow cards may face further disciplinary action. The governing body’s disciplinary rules specify: “If a national or club team conducts itself improperly, for example, if yellow or red cards are shown by the referee to either five or more players or a combination of six or more players and officials during a match, disciplinary measures may be taken against the member association or club concerned.”

Celtic and Manchester United have previously been fined for similar infractions.
