BREAKING NEWS: Wests Tigers forward resigns for the team

After making his NRL debut for the Wests Tigers last week against the North Queensland Cowboys, young front-rower Tim Johannssen has been rewarded with a contract extension.

Johannssen’s journey is one of the feel-good stories of the 2024 NRL season. His first-grade debut came after starting the season in the Sydney Shield, a fourth-grade competition, before quickly rising through the ranks to the Ron Massey Cup (third-grade) and NSW Cup (second-grade).

Having started his career in the Newcastle Knights pathways system, Johannssen demonstrated in limited minutes during his debut that he possesses the potential to secure a regular spot on the NRL field as a forward.

Zero Tackle can now reveal that Johannssen has been rewarded with a train-and-trial contract for the 2025 season. Additionally, he holds an option in his favor for the following year, which could see him either join the Wests Tigers’ Top 30 roster or move to a development contract for the 2026 season.

“Honestly, at the moment, I’m just taking it all in and enjoying being here, bringing what I can to the team—my enthusiasm, my energy, and trying to support the younger players as well,” Johannssen shared on the Wests Tigers’ official podcast, Behind the Roar.

“I just want to work hard to win some games and repay Benji and the club for giving me this opportunity. I’ll never be able to fully repay him, but I want to put my best foot forward, train the house down, and give my all when I play.”
