JUST IN: FSU basketball have now signs talented player to the roster

Florida State Seminoles men’s basketball has announced the signing of Greek player Anastasios Rozakeas.

“Anastasios brings a very mature mindset to our program,” said head coach Leonard Hamilton. “He has the versatility to play multiple positions—bringing the ball up the court as well as rebounding. He offers a complete skill set—he’s a good decision maker, strong ball handler, and can pass and shoot. He’s well-schooled in the fundamentals of basketball and will fit in very well with our roster.”

Rozakeas, who will represent Greece in the upcoming FIBA U18 EuroBasket Championship in Finland starting July 27, 2024, currently plays for the Olympiacos BC U18 team, which went undefeated and won the 2024 Greek U18 Championship.

“I can’t wait to put all my passion on the court to make Florida State and our fans proud,” Rozakeas said. “The hard work, dedication, and discipline that brought me to FSU will continue to drive my efforts. I am confident that Coach Hamilton and Coach Jones will elevate my performance to new heights. I am excited and honored to be a Seminole.”

Rozakeas joins a roster that has seen significant changes following a number of departures. Florida State has brought in four players via the transfer portal this offseason—Jerry Deng (Hampton), Malique Eqin (No. 1 JUCO prospect from South Plains College), Justin Thomas (UTSA), and Bostyn Holt (South Dakota)—and signed three high school recruits—Daquan Davis (four-star), AJ Swinton (three-star), and Christian Nitu (three-star). Returning players include Chandler Jackson, Taylor Bol Bowen, and Jamir Watkins, with Watkins’ return being particularly notable after he considered transferring and entering the NBA Draft.

The official release from Florida State highlights Rozakeas’ accolades, including being named to the All-Tournament team at the 2024 Greek Rising Stars U18 tournament and leading Olympiacos U18 to an undefeated season and championship. He is known for his effective off-ball movement, screen navigation, and pick-and-roll execution.

Rozakeas also competed in the 2022 U16 FIBA European Championship and currently plays with Olympiacos S.F.P. Piraeus alongside Americans Nigel Williams-Goss (Gonzaga), Moses Wright (Georgia Tech), and Alec Peters (Valparaiso and Phoenix Suns).

“I am thrilled to bring my passion to Florida State and make our fans proud,” said Rozakeas. “The hard work and discipline that brought me here will continue to drive my efforts. I am confident that Coach Hamilton and Coach Jones will help elevate my performance.”

Rozakeas’ family expressed their support and excitement for his new journey at Florida State. “We are delighted and honored that Anastasios has joined the Florida State program,” said his mother, Maria. “FSU is an institution that will help him grow academically and athletically. We are confident in the experienced and enthusiastic coaching staff and are ready to support him all the way.”
