Bradford City striker wanted by League One side

Bradford City faces a decision regarding the future of their attacker during this transfer window. Although he is contracted with the League Two side until next year, his long-term situation at Valley Parade is currently uncertain.

Young, 23, joined the Yorkshire outfit in 2022 and has made 17 appearances for them in all competitions, contributing four goals. He recently came off the bench for Graham Alexander’s side in their friendly match against Altrincham of the National League.

Journalist Nixon has reported on Patreon that Stevenage is interested in bringing him up to League One this summer. Stevenage finished in a respectable 9th position last season, just five points shy of the play-offs.

Stevenage might view Young as a valuable addition to strengthen their attacking options. The Huddersfield-born player previously spent time at Sheffield United after joining the Blades from non-league Guiseley.

Young joined Forest Green Rovers in 2020, scoring 12 goals in 62 games during his time in Gloucestershire. Bradford City then brought him closer to home two years ago, but he hasn’t made the impact he had hoped for with his current team. Injuries have hampered his progress, and he may feel he has unfinished business with Alexander’s side.

  1. He was loaned out to Barrow in his first year before linking up with Swindon Town last summer on a temporary basis.
Young was prolific for the Robins and fired 16 goals in 26 matches in all competitions in Wiltshire. However, his time at the County Ground was cut short last January.
Bradford City risk losing him for free in 12 months if they don’t cash in on him now or in January, assuming he doesn’t pen an extension anytime soon.

Time will tell if Stevenage can lure Young to Hertfordshire, with the transfer window open until the end of the month. Both teams are preparing for the upcoming 2024/25 season, which starts next weekend. Bradford City has a challenging away game against MK Dons, while Stevenage (Boro) will host Shrewsbury Town in a third-tier clash.
