Barnsley and Rotherham United target Charlton Athletic midfielder in loan move

Barnsley and Rotherham United are interested in a loan move for Charlton Athletic’s Terry Taylor, according to Football Insider.

Both Barnsley and Rotherham United will compete in League One this upcoming season. Barnsley reached the play-offs last season but missed out on promotion after losing form towards the end. Rotherham United, relegated from the Championship, are aiming for a swift return under Steve Evans.

Taylor, 23, appeared in only five third-tier games for Charlton last season due to an injury that hampered his consistency. Previously, he made 26 appearances for Burton Albion in League One.

Barnsley and Rotherham Uni Ted are reportedly preparing loan moves for Taylor to strengthen their squads for a competitive season. The 23-year-old has proven he can play at League One level, showing promise at Burton Albion despite struggling at Charlton.

Targeting promotion, Barnsley and Rotherham offer Taylor a valuable opportunity for development. A full season of regular playtime would benefit his growth, and staying fit would be an added advantage for both him and the clubs involved.

The season ahead

Taylor needs minutes, so it’s crucial for him to go where he is guaranteed more playtime. With the summer transfer window open for a few more weeks, the Addicks should carefully consider the best destination for his development, ensuring he returns next year in the strongest possible position.

Ideally, Taylor should secure his move as soon as possible to allow ample time to acclimate to his new club. While a transfer before this weekend would be ideal, it seems unlikely at the moment. It will be interesting to see if he features for Nathan Jones’ side this weekend.

The League One campaign kicks off this week. Barnsley starts with a home game against Mansfield Town on Friday evening, Rotherham United will aim for three points away at Exeter City, and Charlton Athletic will be looking for a strong start away to Wigan Athletic I’m.
