Chesterfield have signed Vontae Daley-Campbell following his departure from Peterborough United, as announced on their official club website.
After a recent trial, during which he played in pre-season friendlies against Alfreton Town, Sheffield United, and Derby County, Chesterfield decided to bring the defender on board. Daley-Campbell, 23, has signed a one-year deal with the Spireites, with an option for an additional 12 months.
He expressed his excitement on the club’s website: “I’m delighted to finally get it sorted. It’s such a big club and a great platform for me. I’m buzzing to get it done. Since being on trial here, the gaffer and the staff have been fantastic with me, and it just feels right. I’m excited to learn more about the town, the club, and the supporters and really get involved. I just want to get going now; I’m ready for it.”
Assistant manager Danny Webb added: “We’re pleased to have him. He is a top lad and a very good player who will provide good competition for the right-back position.”
Daley-Campbell has become Chesterfield’s sixth signing of the summer, adding more competition and depth to their defense.
Peterborough United signed him in February on a short-term deal, but he didn’t make an appearance for the Posh. They reached the play-offs but were beaten in the semi-finals by eventual winners Oxford United.
Earlier this year, Daley-Campbell mutually parted ways with Cardiff City, despite having another year left on his contract. He joined the Bluebirds in 2022 but made only two first-team appearances for them in all competitions.
Daley-Campbell rose through the academy ranks at Arsenal and was a regular for the Premier League side at various youth levels before leaving the Emirates Stadium in 2019. He was subsequently signed by Leicester City, where he spent two years, including a loan spell in Scotland with Dundee to gain experience.
