JUST IN: Borussia Dortmund have completed the signing of midfielder

Pascal Gross, Brighton and Hove Albion’s German midfielder, has returned to his homeland by joining Borussia Dortmund. The versatile 33-year-old, who has made 261 appearances for Brighton since arriving from Ingolstadt in 2017, played 36 Premier League games last season, scoring four goals and providing three assists.

Gross has signed with Borussia Dortmund for a fee of around £6 million on a two-year deal until 2026. The 33-year-old was part of Julian Nagelsmann’s Euro 2024 squad, playing only a half in Germany’s campaign, which ended in a quarter-final extra-time loss to Spain.

During his time with Brighton, Gross scored 32 goals and registered 52 assists. He was twice voted the fans’ player of the season, in the 2017-18 and 2023-24 campaigns, showcasing his versatility by playing various roles in central midfield, out wide, and at full-back.

Borussia Dortmund’s managing director, Lars Ricken, expressed his excitement: “Pascal has developed into an absolute top performer in recent years. He will make us more stable and flexible, help us with his experience, and have a very positive influence as a leader. We are very pleased that he has been a BVB fan for many years and has clearly committed to our club at an early stage.”

BVB sports director, Sebastian Kehl, added: “We are very happy to bring Pascal back to the Bundesliga. With his calmness on the ball, outstanding passing, positioning, and versatility, he adds new dimensions to our team. Pascal also poses direct and indirect goal threats in many areas. We are convinced that he will enrich our game and strengthen us with his will to win and his personality.”

Gross himself commented: “I’m really looking forward to BVB. For me, this move is simply huge, as I’ve been a Dortmund fan since I was a little boy. I will try to repay the club’s trust with my style and can’t wait to play in front of the BVB fans at Signal Iduna Park with my new teammates and work together to achieve our big goals.”

He becomes the first signing of Nuri Sahin’s tenure, following the former Dortmund and Real Madrid midfielder’s appointment as head coach after Edin Terzic’s departure.
