DONE DEAL: Peterborough United to sign European centre back, medical today

Peterborough United are reportedly on the verge of signing Swedish defender Oscar Wallin, according to Swedish outlet Värmlands Folkblad.

As Peterborough United prepares for another season in League One, they have experienced a busy summer transfer window, making several strong additions but also losing some key players.

Darren Ferguson’s side, which finished in the top six last season, hopes to replicate and improve on that success this year. Wallin, 23, joined the second-tier Swedish club Degerfors in January 2022.

Over the past two years, he has played at the heart of their defense, making 28 league appearances.

Wallin initially joined Degerfors when they were in the top flight, but he couldn’t prevent their relegation and has since been playing in the second tier. Recent reports indicate that he had his final training session with Degerfors yesterday and has traveled to Peterborough for his medical, potentially swapping the second tier in Sweden for the third tier in England.

A key replacement

One of Peterborough United’s best players last season was defender Ronnie Edwards, whose departure to Premier League club Southampton has made strengthening the defense a priority. Although Wallin may not reach the same heights as Edwards, finding a comparable talent within League One is nearly impossible.

The 23-year-old Wallin brings experience from playing at a high level in Sweden. While he has yet to experience English football, it is hoped that his top-flight experience in Sweden will help him adjust quickly.
