Shaun Hutchinson has returned to The Den, rejoining Millwall just two months after being released by the club. The 33-year-old defender spent eight years with the Lions, making 257 appearances before his contract expired in May. His departure followed a season marred by injuries that restricted his playing time.
In a surprising turn of events, Hutchinson has signed a new one-year deal with Millwall, marking his comeback to the club. Known for his significant influence in the dressing room, he is expected to resume his role as club captain.
Shaun Hutchinson’s return to Millwall coincides closely with Japhet Tanganga’s decision to rejoin The Den following a successful loan stint last season. Together, they will strengthen Millwall’s central defense alongside Jake Cooper and Wes Harding in preparation for the upcoming Championship campaign.
Hutchinson may feature in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Reading scheduled for tomorrow. However, his first appearance in front of Millwall fans could occur during their warm-weather training camp in Spain next week. The Lions are set to face Nottingham Forest on Tuesday and Real Murcia next Friday at the Pinatar Stadium.
The news of Hutchinson’s return is expected to be well-received by senior players within the club.
Earlier this month, midfielder George Saville expressed to NewsAtDen, “Losing the likes of Hutchy is a big loss for the dressing room. It’s not just about the eleven players who play on the Saturday, there’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes that people just don’t see. You need the players on the pitch but you need players like Hutchy at your football club, in my opinion.”
