Released Tranmere Rovers man has found a new home

Former Rovers youngster Dan Pike has joined League of Ireland club Dundalk following his departure from Tranmere.

The right-back came up through the youth ranks at Ewood Park and was a regular for the Under-21 squad. Though he was named on the bench at the first-team level, he never made a senior appearance.

Pike spent time on loan at AFC Fylde, where he helped the Coasters secure promotion to the top flight of the non-league pyramid by winning the National League North.

After leaving Rovers last summer, Pike signed with Tranmere, making 20 appearances as the Merseyside team finished 16th in League Two last season.

Since departing Prenton Park earlier this summer, Pike has been looking for a new club and will now join Dundalk, where he will play alongside Felix Goddard, who is on loan until January.

“Dan is a natural right-back, so he will come in for Archie (Davies) but can also provide good cover on both sides,” manager Jon Daly told the club website. “He has played at a good level and has been on my radar for some time, so it’s good to finally get him over. I think he will be a really good addition to the group. It’s important that he comes in and hits the ground running. He knows he has big boots to fill, but it’s a challenge that Dan is looking forward to.”

Pike added, “This is a really good opportunity for me to come to Ireland, play games, and try to enjoy my football again. I’m predominantly right-sided, but I can do a job at left-back. I work hard, and I like to think that defensively I’m good in one-on-one situations. I’m looking forward to getting started.”
