Northampton Town complete the signing of striker from league rivals

Former Wanderers striker Tom Eaves has signed a two-year deal with League One rivals Northampton Town. The 32-year-old, who had a year left on his contract at Rotherham, has now joined Jon Brady’s squad at Sixfields.

Eaves made 35 appearances in the Championship last season, scoring six goals as the Millers were relegated. The towering forward, who also played for Hull, Gillingham, and Yeovil, was considered a potential target for the Whites in January 2023 before Cameron Jerome’s arrival.

Brady is enthusiastic about working with Eaves and believes he will be a valuable addition to the team. “Tom is a quality addition to the squad,” said the manager. “He has a physical presence about him, and we believe he will blend and balance well with the other strikers we have at the club. He isn’t just about being a physical presence; he is very mobile and capable of skillful finishes, as his record shows. He has a good goal-to-games record.”

“He finished last season strongly in the Championship, scoring twice on the final day, and has spent the last three seasons at that level.

“When a player with Tom’s attributes, experience, goalscoring record, and pedigree becomes available, there is always a lot of interest. We are delighted to welcome him to Sixfields.”

In other news, another former Wanderer has switched clubs ahead of the upcoming season. Lukas Jensen has joined Millwall from Lincoln for an undisclosed fee.

Goalkeeper Jensen, who had a loan spell with the Whites in 2021 but did not make a senior appearance, has signed a “long term” deal at the Den.

He impressed for the Imps last season, keeping 19 clean sheets in 45 matches, and will now aim to prove he can make the step up to Championship football.

“I’m honestly buzzing. I’ve always said I wanted to play at the highest level, so once Millwall was an option for me, it was a no-brainer,” Jensen told Millwall’s official channels.

“The Championship is a very high level, but I believe I’m ready to prove myself.

“Once I spoke with the gaffer and he told me about the project, it was something I could see myself being a part of.

“And seeing how well they’ve done in previous seasons, I knew it was the right fit for me. I can’t wait to get started.”
