Gould confirms latest injury blow for Bulldogs

Canterbury Bulldogs director of football Phil Gould has disclosed that forward Max King may be sidelined for the remainder of the season, as scans have confirmed a wrist fracture.

King sustained the injury during last weekend’s dramatic golden point victory against the New Zealand Warriors.

Initially, there were hopes that King would not face a lengthy spell out, but Gould confirmed the fracture and stated that King will now seek advice from a surgeon.

If surgery is necessary to repair the injury, King faces an eight-week recovery period, potentially allowing him to return at the start of the NRL finals series.

The duration of King’s absence without surgery remains uncertain.

Currently, Canterbury Bulldogs are in strong contention for a finals berth, but an extensive injury list will challenge the club in securing wins during the closing weeks of the season.

King has featured in 15 games this season, averaging 124 metres per game and maintaining a tackle success rate of over 95%.

He joins Jaeman Salmon, Ryan Sutton, Josh Addo-Carr, Drew Hutchison, and Blake Taaffe on the sidelines in the upcoming matches as Canterbury faces North Queensland Cowboys (away), Brisbane Broncos (away), Canberra Raiders (home), St George Illawarra Dragons (away), the Dolphins (home), New Zealand Warriors (away), Manly Sea Eagles (home), and North Queensland Cowboys (home) in the final weeks of the season.

Currently fifth on the table with 9 wins from 16 games, the club likely needs three or four victories from their remaining eight games to secure a finals berth.
