Hamilton like a shark that smelled blood in British GP – Webber

Mark Webber described Lewis Hamilton’s performance as “beast mode.”

Hamilton was likened to “a shark in the ocean” that “smelled blood” as he ended a two-and-a-half-year drought by winning the British Grand Prix. It was an emotional moment when Hamilton crossed the finish line at Silverstone, claiming his 104th F1 victory and first since the 2021 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, ending a 946-day wait.

Hamilton’s drive was impressive, especially in changeable conditions. He managed to stay ahead of Red Bull rival Max Verstappen in the final stint on soft tyres, while Verstappen opted for hard Pirellis when both pitted with 15 laps remaining.

“It was beast mode – home turf,” said nine-time Grand Prix winner Webber on Channel 4. “During the first stint, when they mentioned rain, that’s when he smelled blood, like a shark in the ocean. He saw opportunities and decided to pressure everyone around him, drawing on his vast experience and history of success.

“Hamilton took control of the race, making key decisions and driving the team. He knew what he wanted and delivered it. His calm and collected approach was evident. I’m a big Lewis fan, and although I questioned his motivation, seeing him seize an opportunity like this shows his true potential. Stand back and watch him go.”
