AWAY TRAVEL GUIDE – MELKSHAM TOWN

Yeovil Town’s pre-season friendly schedule kicks off with a visit to Melksham Town on Tuesday night, with a 7.45pm kick-off.

This match will provide Glovers’ fans with their first glimpse of new signings such as strikers Aaron Jarvis and Harvey Greenslade, midfielder Brett McGavin, and on-loan goalkeeper Ollie Wright, among others, in their green-and-white colors.

Yeovil has faced Melksham before, most recently in pre-season 2019 following their relegation from the Football League, where a squad mostly composed of trialists suffered a heavy 6-0 defeat.

For those planning to attend the game at Oakfield Stadium, here are some important details:

About Melksham Town: Melksham Town competes in the Southern League Division One South. In the 2023/24 season, they finished fourth from bottom in their league, three divisions below the National League Premier. Managed by Mark Collier since November 2022, Melksham recently faced League One side Bristol Rovers in their first pre-season game, losing 4-2 despite a competitive showing.

Ticket Information: Tickets can be purchased on Eventbrite, with prices as follows (including booking fees): Adult: £11.55, OAPs: £9.38, 14-16 years: £5.04, 6-13 years: £2.88.

How to Get There: The Oakfield Stadium has been Melksham’s home since 2017, shared with the local rugby club. It operates as a cashless stadium, accepting card payments only. Free parking is available at the venue.

Address: The Oakfield Stadium, Eastern Way, Melksham, Wiltshire, SN12 7GU.

This match promises to be an exciting opportunity for both teams as they continue their pre-season preparations.

Directions:

By Road: If traffic cooperates, the journey from Yeovil to Melksham should take approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes by car. Follow these directions for the quickest route:

  • Take the A303 west and continue onto the A350 just before reaching Chicklade.
  • Stay on the A350 passing through Warminster and Westbury until you approach Melksham.
  • Take the exit onto Western Way at the edge of Melksham.
  • Follow Western Way to the Spa roundabout, then take the second exit onto Spa Road.
  • At the next roundabout, take the second exit onto Snowberry Lane.
  • Continue to Eastern Way at the following roundabout.
  • You will pass by some out-of-town housing estates before taking a right-hand turn towards Oakfield Stadium. Look out for signs along the way!

By Rail: There is a train station in Melksham, but it is quite a distance from Oakfield Stadium, making driving or getting a lift more convenient options. From Yeovil Pen Mill station, you can take South West Trains to Westbury, then transfer to the Great Western Railway towards Swindon, alighting at Melksham. However, returning by train may involve a lengthy wait at Westbury, making this less practical for a friendly match. It’s advisable to consider alternative transport options for convenience.
