EXCLUSIVE: Here is the next player to exit St Johnstone

The Australian international played for the Saints for two years. St Johnstone defender Ryan McGowan is set to join a Championship club later this week.

Courier Sport reports that several second-tier clubs are interested in signing the Australian international for the upcoming season.

The former Hearts player spent two years at McDiarmid Park but was not offered a new contract to extend his stay.

Perth boss Craig Levein has already signed one new center-back, Jack Sanders from Kilmarnock, and with Sam McClelland returning from his loan at Dundee United, further recruitment in that area is a priority for July.

McGowan was a popular player among Saints supporters.

He played an important role in keeping the team in the Premiership during both his seasons after being signed by Callum Davidson to replace Dan Cleary. His last contribution was a superb performance alongside Liam Gordon in the dramatic ‘Survival Sunday’ victory over Motherwell.

Dan Phillips is the only other member of the 2023/24 squad who has yet to either extend his stay with the Saints or join a new club.
