Darren Sarll identifies four key areas Hartlepool United still need to strengthen.

Hartlepool United boss Darren Sarll is targeting another attacking player, a winger, a central midfielder, and at least one goalkeeper as he aims to build a squad capable of challenging for promotion in the National League. After a slow start to the summer, Sarll has hit his stride, adding four new recruits, including National Leaguepromotion-winner Adam Campbell.

Sarll’s recruitment has been refreshingly focused, with an emphasis on signing players known for their reliability, industry, and tenacity, all of whom fit well with his high-pressing style. However, Pools are still lacking in several key areas, particularly in goalkeeping. Joel Dixon, who managed just one clean sheet in 26 outings last term and is now transfer-listed, remains Sarll’s only option in that department.

Elsewhere, despite the welcome additions of Nathan Sheron and Jack Hunter, Hartlepool United might still feel short of a midfielder. The injury-prone history of enigmatic Frenchman Anthony Mancini could tempt Sarll to seek another creative presence in the midfield.

Pools appear relatively well-stocked further forward, but Sarll remains eager to bolster the squad, with Solihull striker Mark Beck prominently linked with a move to Victoria Park.

The new boss is determined not to rest on his laurels as he aims to equip his squad with all the necessary tools to compete at the top end of the table next season. Speaking to the club website, Sarll emphasized the need for reinforcements in key areas:

“I think Dieseruvwe will need some support in some way or form. Another wide player would be very beneficial, along with another central midfielder. We also need to strengthen the goalkeeping department because we’ll need another option, at the very least.

“These areas are crucial, but I’m pleased that if the season started tomorrow, I’d feel confident and comfortable with what we have to initiate the winning process and get us off to a strong start.

“So, I believe we’re in a strong position. There’s no rush, but if we can add significant contributors to the squad—players who bring goals, clean sheets, and overall impact—then we should always be looking to do so.”
