NYCFC vs Orlando City SC: How to watch, time, and more of the Pride game

Are troubled times returning for New York City FC? Some fans are asking this question as the team heads into Friday on a three-match losing streak. The Columbus Crew match arguably should have ended in a draw, and the Pigeons could have stolen a point or three from Nashville SC if they had managed to get a shot on target. Instead, they earned zero out of a possible nine points over the last week.

However, the next fixture is one they should win. NYCFC will be at home in front of their fans, playing against Orlando City SC. The Florida side is currently in tenth place with 21 points but has a 3-3-3 away record, indicating they are a threat regardless of the venue. Orlando also features Duncan McGuire, who was second in voting for the Young Player of the Year in 2023. The 23-year-old has six goals this season and almost transferred overseas. A failed transfer is why the talented forward remains with Orlando and continues to add to his goal tally in 2024.

For NYCFC to secure a win, they must first get shots on target and then capitalize on their chances. While it would be nice for Mounsef Bakrar to score consistently, Nick Cushing needs to give his other strikers opportunities to start. It would be beneficial to see Jovan Mijatović receive a few consecutive starts to determine if he can start scoring. The Bronx team needs a hero, but one cannot emerge with limited playing time.

While a win is both wanted and needed, NYCFC supporters can at least look forward to Friday’s celebration, as it is their Pride game. The Pigeons will celebrate Pride by offering themed retail items before the match, and drag queen Jan Sport will sing the national anthem before kickoff. As of now, there don’t appear to be events like those at Gotham FC’s Pride game, but the occasion promises to be festive nonetheless.
