Millwall bid for Notts County goal machine – Details

Millwall have shown interest in acquiring Notts County striker Macaulay Langstaff during the summer transfer window.

According to reports from Football Insider earlier today, the Lions have officially made a move for the 27-year-old forward. The South London Press has also confirmed that a bid has been submitted.

Millwall head coach Neil Harris had previously highlighted the need to bolster his frontline, especially with Michael Obafemi returning to parent club Burnley after the Championship season concluded. Harris clarified that the decision not to pursue the Republic of Ireland international was influenced by factors including “discipline,” which contributed to Obafemi’s absence from the squad in their victory over Swansea on the final day.

Currently, Millwall’s senior striker options are limited to Tom Bradshaw and Kevin Nisbet.

Langstaff had an impressive season with Notts County, scoring 28 goals to secure the League Two Golden Boot. This marks his third consecutive season as the top goalscorer, known for his proficiency in the penalty box.

In May 2023, Langstaff was recognized as the National League’s Player of the Season after scoring 42 goals in the league, all from open play. His successful stint began at Gateshead, where he scored 32 goals and provided 14 assists to help his team win the National League North.

Langstaff committed to Notts County by signing a contract extension until 2027 and was appointed club captain on June 10. Despite his achievements, Langstaff expressed loyalty to the club, stating on BBC East Midlands Today in early May that it would require “something incredible” to tempt him away from Notts County.

While he aims to play at the highest level possible, Langstaff emphasized his desire to achieve this goal with Notts County, underscoring his commitment to the club’s progress in the Football League.
