Jayson Tatum warns that teams who overlook Duke basketball standout Kyle Filipowski will regret it.

Kyle Filipowski, a standout from Duke basketball, experienced a deeply disheartening evening in Brooklyn during the 2024 NBA Draft.

After slipping out of the first round, he now awaits his destiny in the upcoming second round on Thursday afternoon.

Videos emerged showing him departing the Barclays Center, visibly disappointed alongside his family, following numerous predictions that had him pegged as a first-round prospect. As early as April, some even speculated that the 7-foot talent could have been selected in the lottery.

Despite the challenging night, Jayson Tatum remains optimistic about Filipowski’s future.

“Lot of teams are going to regret passing up on Flip,” he shared on social media late Wednesday night.

Considered one of the top prospects available in the draft, Kyle Filipowski, a consensus Second Team All-American, showcased impressive statistics during his sophomore season with averages of 16.4 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.5 blocks, and 1.1 steals per game.

In a social media video shared by the Duke basketball program before the draft, Filipowski expressed gratitude for his journey, saying, “I’m super grateful to be here. It means so much. My 8-year-old self is so proud of me for all of those sacrifices and late nights to put myself in this position.”

The NBA Draft moves to the ESPN studios in Manhattan for the second round, marking the first time the draft is split between two days. It remains uncertain whether Kyle Filipowski plans to attend.

Earlier in the evening, Filipowski showed optimism when his Duke teammate, Jared McCain, was selected as the No. 16 overall pick by the Philadelphia 76ers.

If selected in the second round, Filipowski will be the first Duke player under coach Jon Scheyer to be chosen in that round, following Dereck Lively and Dariq Whitehead as first-round picks last season.

The second round of the NBA Draft is set to begin at 4:00 p.m. ET on ESPN, with the Toronto Raptors holding the No. 31 overall selection.
