Chelsea make first move to sign unplayable attacker from Newcastle United

Newcastle United are facing a challenging task to retain their key players as clubs across Europe eye potential moves in the summer transfer window.

Players like Anthony Gordon and Bruno Guimaraes have already attracted significant interest following standout performances during the 2023-24 season.

However, Newcastle can take comfort in knowing that Guimaraes’ £100m release clause has expired, shifting the onus onto interested clubs to negotiate a transfer fee with Eddie Howe’s team.

Another player in high demand this summer is Alexander Isak, who garnered attention as one of Europe’s top scorers last season, netting an impressive 25 goals across all competitions for Newcastle.

Chelsea are reportedly considering a record-breaking move within the Premier League to sign Newcastle’s Alexander Isak.

Chelsea have been proactive in the summer transfer window, securing Tosin Adarabioyo on a free transfer from Fulham.

Now, the Blues have initiated discussions to acquire Alexander Isak from Newcastle, with a formal enquiry reported to have been made. According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea are keen on signing the Swedish international and acknowledge that they may need to surpass the Premier League record fee of £115m, which they paid to Brighton & Hove Albion for Moises Caicedo last season.

Newcastle are expected to negotiate firmly to retain one of their key assets, but they may face pressure to sell Alexander Isak if they receive an irresistible offer to comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.

Isak, 24, who has been praised as ‘unplayable’ by former Tottenham Hotspur winger Jamie Redknapp, is under contract at St. James’ Park until the summer of 2028. There have even been discussions about him signing a new long-term deal with the club.

Meanwhile, Chelsea continue their search for attacking reinforcements and are reportedly close to securing Barcelona youngster Marc Guiu for €6m, as per Fabrizio Romano. Lille’s Jonathan David is also a target for the Blues, while Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge.

Despite Newcastle bolstering their defense with the arrival of Lloyd Kelly from Bournemouth on a free transfer, they have yet to make additions to other areas of their squad.
