JUST IN: Toronto Marlies Sign 2 Greyhounds players

Forwards Jacob Frasca and Marko Sikic, both born in 2003, have signed professional contracts with the Toronto Maple Leafs farm team.

Captain of the Mississauga Steelheads and overage defenseman Chas Sharpe was signed by the Toronto Marlies earlier this season. With the signing of Soo Greyhounds forward Jacob Frasca and Sarnia Sting centerman Marko Sikic to one-year AHL contracts for the 2024–25 season, the Maple Leafs farm organization has once again dabbled in the OHL.

Jacob Frasca, 21, attended Toronto’s 2023 Development Camp and participated in their Prospect Tournament the same summer. Frasca played his first three seasons in the OHL as a member of the Barrie Colts. His career-best season came in 2022-23, tallying up 27 goals and 69 points in 68 games.

Barrie traded the 6-foot-4, 215-pound Frasca to the Soo Greyhounds as the calendars flipped into 2024. He scored nine goals and 21 points in 28 games and added 11 points in 11 playoff games to wrap up his major junior hockey career.

This season, Marko Sikic, 21, scored a career-high 57 points in 66 games to lead a young, rebuilding Sarnia Sting club in scoring. The Guelph Storm selected Sikic ten spots after Frasca in the 2019 OHL Priority Selection (55th overall). During the 2021–22 season, the Kitchener, Ontario native was traded to Sarnia.

Sikic spent his whole OHL career playing 273 games and scoring 153 points (regular season and playoffs combined). He participated in three ECHL games with the Newfoundland Growlers and one with the Norfolk Admirals following the conclusion of his OHL career.

If both players want to extend their professional playing careers beyond this season, they will have to impress the Marlies organization and fight for playing time in the AHL.
