Early next week, Alex Mitchell’s transfer from Millwall to Charlton Athletic is expected to be official.
A contract for the 22-year-old centre back has been agreed upon by the two South London clubs.
But because of the untimely death of Lions keeper Matija Sarkic, 26, on Saturday morning in Montenegro, the transfer’s formal confirmation has been delayed.
During his season-long loan from the Lions, Mitchell appeared in 41 games for Lincoln City in all competitions in the previous campaign.
Josh Edwards, a defender from Dunfermline, and midfielder Luke Berry, whose contract with Luton Town expires on July 1, are the two new additions to Charlton this week.
After making many short-term transfers from Millwall to Bromley, St Johnstone, and Leyton Orient, Mitchell has performed admirably in each position.
Before the defender left for Lincoln in the middle of August, the Lions extended his contract in order to safeguard themselves in terms of collecting a fee.
