Kansas City Chiefs: 5X All-Pro, Free Agent Interested In Teaming Up With Patrick Mahomes This Season

As training camp approaches, the Kansas City Chiefs’ offence is severely lacking in one area: left tackle. The Chiefs offence and quarterback Patrick Mahomes seem to be interested in forming a partnership with the five-time All-Pro at the position this season.

For the first time since being selected by the Green Bay Packers in the 2013 NFL Draft, David Bakhtiari is without a team. Due to knee problems, Bakhtiari had not been a dependable starter in recent seasons, thus the Packers were forced to turn him loose for budgetary reasons.

5X All-Pro has more to give

Despite not having signed for the 2017 season, Bakhtiari is still optimistic about his NFL career. The former Packers player shared his opinions in a piece that was published on ESPN.

“Right now, I just want to make sure that I can play the game that I want to play, that I can withstand the injury, and that I can play and support my team no matter what,” Bakhtiari stated. “I am your cornerstone; I am not a reliever. Someone who will perform not just in September but also in December and early February, and ideally for a few more years after that…

“I object to having my story written by someone else. Bakhtiari claimed to have recently discussed his career with Houston Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair. “I couldn’t just put a period, close the book, and leave it,” Bakhtiari stated. “I just needed to kind of remind everyone.” According to ESPN, “people seem to have forgotten the kind of player I was and am.”

David Bakhtiari would team up with Patrick Mahomes

In terms of where Bakhtiari wants to play in 2024, his word choice suggests that the Chiefs are the most likely destination. Bakhtiari expressed his desire to play alongside the next Super Bowl MVP to ESPN’s Adan Schefter. As Arrowhead Pride’s Pete Sweeney notes, Mahomes would be Bahktiari’s best option:

The Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has won MVP honours in the last two (and three of the previous five) Super Bowls.

Bakhtiari is hence drawn to Kansas City. Is he someone Kansas City should be considering?

Kansas City Chiefs fans want Bakhtiari

To find out if Chiefs supporters should sign Bakhtiari, Sweeney set up a poll. 72% of fans who cast ballots as of the time of publication said they wanted Bakhtiari signed by the Chiefs.
The Chiefs presently have a competition between rookie Kingsley Suamataia and Wanya Morris for the left tackle position during training camp. If Bakhtiari stays healthy, the Chiefs will benefit from his presence. The Chiefs have the depth to replace Bakhtiari, so they might as well sign him if they can sign him for less money.
The Chiefs would have an outstanding player for their chance to win three straight titles, while Bakhtiari would have the opportunity to pursue a ring.
