Carlisle United on track to sign players says Paul Simpson

During the summer transfer window, CARLISLE United is’very hard’ at signing players, according to manager Paul Simpson.

The Blues added four players to their roster for the 2024–24 League Two season as soon as the EFL transfer window began on Friday, June 14.

Thus far, Carlisle has declared the arrival of veteran 22-year-old defender Cameron Harper from Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Scottish goalie Jude Smith, and Aaron Hayden, who is returning to the team from Wrexham AFC.

After Terell Thomas left Charlton Athletic, the club announced in the past 48 hours that he had signed a two-year contract with them as a Saint Lucian defender.

Simpson stated that the team is moving forward with its transfer goals even though the window is still early.

Speaking on the team’s website, he stated: “We’re still working on one defensive area that needs to be resolved.

“Of course, we’re working on other projects as well, but I dislike judging whether or not anything is close since it always ends up biting me in the rear.

“We are working very hard to get players into the building and we’ll keep going until they’re here with us.”

In preparation for the 2024–2025 League Two season, Carlisle United manager Paul Simpson is reshaping the defence.

Three of the Blues’ four summer additions have been defenders thus far; Terell Thomas, an international for Saint Lucia, and Aaron Hayden will play in the middle of defence, while Cameron Harper, a Scot, will start on the left flank.

Following their 2023–24 League One campaign, which resulted in relegation, the Blues released defenders Paul Huntington, Josh Emmanuel, and Corey Whelan. These defensive additions are the result of their actions.

These former Blues participated in 38 games for the team during the previous season.

Important defensive players like Jon Mellish, Sam Lavelle, and Jack Armer—who together made 138 appearances for the Blues in League One—were nevertheless kept by the Brunton Park-based team.

Simpson has made references to developing competition for back positions and having the ability to step in for injured players during the early phases of the transfer window, even if they plan to keep their defensive core.

He stated, “It’s up to them all to fight it out and show me and the rest of the staff that they deserve to play,” on the team’s website.

“Jack Robinson won’t be fit for the first part of the season and it’s really important we hit the ground running.”

Simpson said that the team is still seeking to acquire a defensive player before the season begins, following the announcement of the signing of Terell Thomas, who played 40 games for Charlton Athletic last season.

“We’ve still got one area in defence to resolve which we’re working one,” he stated.

“We are working very hard to get players into the building and we’ll keep going until they’re here with us.”
