AFC Wimbledon loanee lands permanent deal

Alex Bass, who was previously on loan from AFC Wimbledon to Championship team Sunderland, has joined Notts County for an unknown amount on a three-year contract.

The 26-year-old proved popular when on loan at Plough Lane in the 2023–24 season, making 48 appearances in all competitions and recording 17 clean sheets.

The club led by Stuart Maynard placed 14th in League Two last year and gave up the most goals in the division, 86, of any team.

Bass gave up just 47 goals in 44 League Two games played the previous year.

“We believe Alex was the best-performing keeper in League Two last season – and rank him very highly among his peers in League One – so we’re absolutely delighted to welcome him to Meadow Lane,” stated Richard Montague, a board member and Notts County’s recruitment coordinator.

REALTED: AFC Wimbledon step up transfer interest in Crystal Palace stopper

According to the South London Press, AFC Wimbledon has increased its interest in loaning Crystal Palace keeper Owen Goodman to them for the 2024–25 League Two season.

During the summer transfer window, the Dons are focusing their efforts to restructure their goalkeeping staff.

Goodman, 20, played 40 games in his debut senior season away from Selhurst Park while on loan at Colchester United, a League Two rival.

A number of successful keepers on loan at Wimbledon have flourished under head coach Ashley Bayes; in recent years, Aaron Ramsdale, George Long, and Alex Bass have all joined the Dons for a brief period of time.

At the conclusion of the previous season, Nik Tzanev was let go and Bass went back to Sunderland.
