6 Dundee United stars ink new contracts as one exit is confirmed

One of the individuals pledging their futures to the Tangerines was Lewis O’Donnell.

Lewis O’Donnell is one of six young Dundee United players who have pledged allegiance to the Tangerines.

O’Donnell, 18, had a stellar stint on loan with Kelty Hearts last season, playing 38 appearances for the Fife team. Following that, he was linked to Watford and Ipswich Town.

A new contract, valid through the summer of 2026, has been agreed to by the Scotland youth internationalist.

Ruairidh Adams, the keeper, Adam Carnwath, Samuel Cleall-Harding, Sean Borland, and winger Brandon Forbes have all signed one-year extensions, according to United.

Mathew Cudjoe’s departure, which was first reported by Courier Sport on Monday, was officially announced on Tuesday night. Liam Trotter, Keir Bertie, and Greg Petrie, three young people, have also left.

Charlie Mulgrew, a former star for Dundee United, has been appointed Hamilton Accies’ new U/18s coach.

Mulgrew played for United for two years towards the conclusion of his career. As a young player, he also enjoyed a loan spell at Tannadice at Celtic.

In September 2023, he announced his retirement from playing, and Accies has now offered him the chance to begin his coaching career.

John Rankin, another former United player, is the manager of the Lanarkshire club. He guided them from League One to the Championship the previous year.

Within the U/18’s top junior program, Mulgrew is expected to: “Play a crucial role in nurturing and developing the next generation of talented young footballers,” according to Accies.

Similar to Dundee United, Accies’ academy is rated among the greatest in the nation by the SFA with a CAS (Club Academy Scotland) Elite classification.

Mulgrew, a former player for the Hoops, Aberdeen, Wolves, and Blackburn Rovers, made 61 games during his second stint at Dundee United, aiding Tam Courts’ Tangerines in 2022’s European qualification.
